Amongst the vast choices you may have, here is the sneak peek to the five Netflix original series that you should absolutely, not miss:

 

  1. The Crown

This Netflix original series is the drama series that follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.

Running since year 2016, with one season each in 2016 and 2017; The Crown showcases story of Queen Elizabeth II — the still-reigning Queen of England, at 91 years old — across different periods of her life, beginning with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VIfollowed by her marriage to Prince Philip of Edinburgh. The series has been widely appreciated, critically acclaimed and received overwhelmingly positive response for the acting, and the historical accuracy. It has bagged many awards including Golden Globe AwardsCritics’ Choice Television AwardsScreen Actors Guild Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series, best supporting Actor – male and female; and the list is pretty long with Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series

The series’ interesting format sees Netflix recasting the role of Elizabeth and other characters season-to-season; Claire Foy starred in seasons one and two; alongside Matt Smith (who played the role of Prince Philip) and Vanessa Kirby (who played the role of Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret), while we heard that Olivia Colman will be taking the royal reins in season three (with Helena Bonham Carter set to portray Princess Margaret as well). Netflix plans to produce a total of 60 episodes over six seasons.

 

 

  1. Stranger Things

This Netflix original series comes under the genre of Science Fiction, Horror fiction, Occult Fiction, Historical period drama and revolves around the story of a young boy who vanishes, and how his friends search for him as a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl who help them in finding him. When 12-year-old Will Byers goes missing in the small town of Hawkins, IN, his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder, in a comeback performance) thinks she’s losing her mind, believing that Will has been taken by supernatural forces. Meanwhile, Will’s friends work to find and rescue him, with the help of a mysterious young girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who appears seemingly out of nowhere.

The mystery gets deeper and darker as the show goes on, while more and more members of the Hawkins community get drawn into the creepy tale. The show would for sure, take you in the age of Spielberg movies and some wonderful performances makes this show a must-watch.

 

 

  1. Sacred Games

The next in line, is an Indian web series- based on Vikram Chandra’s thriller novel written in 2006. This is one is the first Netflix Original from India. It is a story of friendship and betrayal, of terrible violence, of an astonishing modern city and its dark side. The series is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap who also produced it under their banner Phantom Films. The novel was adapted by Varun Grover, Smita Singh and Vasant Nath while Kelly Luegenbiehl, Erik Barmack and Motwane served as the executive producers.

The series is captivating from the very beginning with a horrific act of violence followed by heinous acts one after the other. It unfolds the criminal life of the dark underworld in Mumbai by exploring the life of a gangster and a tale of police inspector trying to prove his mettle. Watch it yourself to get some brilliant acting performances played by seasoned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the other veteran actors like Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte. The series has aired with first season of eight episodes in 2018 and second season expected to be aired in the year of 2019.

 

 

  1. Black Mirror

This Netflix series Black Mirror with the genre of Science fiction, Dystopian, Satire, Psychological thriller and Anthology is anultimateshowcase of the Idiot box fantasizing world. It is a British science fiction created by Charlie Brooker, with Brooker and Annabel Jonesthat examines the impact and unanticipated consequences of the new age technology and advancements. The series revolves around the events that are set in alternative present or in near future, often with a dark and satirical tone, while some being on the lighter note.

The cracked mirror or the screen which is the theme of the series, refers to the digital world that is currently predominantly ruling our lives – a turned off phone, television or any of the other screens that govern us these days – the haunting black screen like a mirror. It seeks to identify the radical changes brought about by digital technology and push them to their logical conclusion.The show was originally commissioned by Channel 4in 2011 which was then purchased by Netflix from year 2016 onwards.

 

 

  1. House of Cards

 

The very famous, critically acclaimed House of Cards is an American political thriller web television series created by Beau Willimon. It is an adaptation of the 1990 BBC miniseries of the same name and based on the novel of the same name by Michael Dobbs. Even the casting in this show is phenomenal. The lead role of Francis Underwood played by Kevin Spacey is beyond words, as anyone would expect of an actor with a track record like Spacey’s. Robin Gayle Wright, being the recipient of seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations and has earned a Golden Globe Award and a Satellite Award for her work in television. The supporting cast is all equally strong though. Kate Mara as the journalist Zoe is outstanding.

 

House of Cards has received numerous positive reviews and several award nominations, including 33 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Spacey, and Outstanding Lead Actress for Wright. Being the first original online-only web television series to receive major Emmy nominations, House of cards has also earned eight Golden Globe Award nominations, with Wright winning for Best Actress – Television Series Drama in 2014 and Spacey winning for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2015.
